Asia is the largest continent in the world. It also has the most population. It absorbs all kinds of products ranging from fast food such as KFC, McDonalds, and Dunkin Donuts to electronics such as Bravia HDTV and Nokia cell phones.

Opening a business in Asia is one of the best business decisions that you've ever made. You can select to base your business in Japan, Korea and Taiwan where competition is tough for technology companies or you can choose fast developing countries such as China, India, Indonesia and Vietnam. The competition is also tough in these countries but the market is huge.

Before entering and opening a business in a country, you need to make market survey. The products or services that you are going to offer to the consumers have to be compatible with the local condition. For instance, if you represent an automotive corporation in the United States, and you intend to sell cars in Indonesia, you need to know the purchasing power parity of the people where you open your outlet.

If the cars they you want to sell are sedan then the consumers will be people in big cities. But if you want to sell cars in the province of North Sulawesi of Indonesia where most of the people earn their living from working as farmers then the automobiles which you should sell are small trucks. Now their datsun trucks are getting older and they need new trucks. If you open an outlet to sell small trucks there, you will be able to sell a lot of them.

The American business owners may still consider that opening a business in Asia needs a lot of capital investment. So, this is only suitable for multi-national corporations such as General Motors, Ford, BP, and Unilever.

But you can open a small hotel in a town in Vietnam with a capital investment as small as 10,000 US dollars. The return of investment might be small but very fast. Or you can open a supermarket in a small town in Batam island of Indonesia and reach the break event point within two to three years of operation.

Countries in South East Asia and East Asia are growing rapidly. Families get higher wages now, it means they can afford to buy consumer electronic products such as mobile phones, flat tv, digital camera, satellite TV antenna and receiver, washing machine, refrigerator and motorcycles. If you are not a manufacturer of such products, you can still open an electronic shop that sells digital electronic products manufactured by Sony, Motorola, Nokia, Philips, Kenwood, and etc. By doing that, you have helped exporting products from your country and create jobs there and meet the increasing demand for such digital electronic products in one of the Asian countries that you choose.

What if you don't have a lot of capital for opening a store in Asia? Don't worry. Do you speak English? "Yes," that will be your answer. You can open an English language school and receive hundreds of new English learners who will come to register for a course. Asian people are now learning English. This is a business opportunity for native English speakers. Before you enter English course business, you need to have teaching certification. If you feel that you don't have the talents to teach then you can still open the language school by hiring local and native English teachers to run your school. For that, you need substantial amount of capital and managerial skills to run your English school.
